The second-smallest nature park in Austria

With a protected area of around 30 hectares, the Heidenreichsteiner Moor Nature Park is the second-smallest nature park in Austria. Despite its small size, however, it is home to a wide variety of bog species, some of which are highly specialised.

    Carnivorous plants and blue frogs

The bog habitats are home to numerous specialised bog species – such as the carnivorous sundew and bog frogs, which turn blue during the mating season. Visitors can discover the bog’s inhabitants along the walking trails as part of a variety of guided tours.

    Nature reserve since 1989

Nature conservation and nature education have a long tradition in Heidenreichstein: a bog and woodland nature trail was established as early as 1979. Since 1989, this has been managed by the Nature Park Association as part of the nature park.

Protecting peatlands means protecting the climate

Today, more than 30 larch timber sheet piles seal off the old drainage ditches and ensure that the water remains within the bog. This helps to preserve the peat layer and ensures that the bog remains an important carbon sink.

Nature Park Centre – Information, catering and starting point

Since 2012, the Nature Park Centre has not only been the starting point for guided tours, but also the main point of contact for visitors to the nature park. Homemade cakes, light bites and drinks invite you to linger on the sun terrace. A large nature playground awaits children.

    Deeply rooted in the region

Networking and cohesion within the region are matters of great importance to us. This includes the promotion of regional products at the Nature Park Centre, joint programmes for groups, and financial support for the Nature Park Association from local businesses and residents.
