The Waldviertel Cycle Route takes you around the Waldviertel for approx. 365 kilometers. This challenging circular tour is ideal as a multi-day tour over five to seven days.
If you really want to experience the Waldviertel, the best way to explore the region is on two wheels—by cycling all the way around it. That’s exactly what the Waldviertel Bike Route offers: a loop tour approximately 365 kilometers long with more than 4,000 meters of elevation gain. As a multi-stage tour lasting five to seven days, it offers a physical challenge but rewards you with particularly immersive experiences of nature.
Dense forests, crisp air, and quiet paths define the landscape and create a special atmosphere. This character is also evident along the main Waldviertel Cycle Route. The route is fully signposted in both directions, allowing you to choose your starting point, direction of travel, and daily stages with complete flexibility.
Along the way, the Waldviertel reveals its diverse character: granite landscapes, vast forests, and idyllic stretches of river alternate one after another. Time and again, unexpected views, quiet ponds, or special places of power open up, inviting you to pause for a moment. Castles, abbeys, and palaces line the route like landmarks and add cultural highlights to the tour—all without a fixed schedule, but at your own pace.
Let us take care of the organization and your luggage so you can fully enjoy your cycling experience. >> PLAN YOUR TRIP
When choosing a route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your cell phone and maps in your backpack. An e-bike is recommended.
We recommend: a helmet, appropriate clothing and footwear, rain and sun protection, a first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).
